Les Cent Livres des Hommes (ORTF, 1969-1973) was a series of literary programs created by Claude Santelli and Françoise Verny, and produced notably by Santelli, Jean Archimbaud, and Serge Moati. Planned for one hundred episodes but completed at thirty-nine, the series aimed to introduce great literary works, 'chefs-d’œuvre', to a younger audience through a mix of dramatization, reading, and documentary techniques. It marked a transfer of cultural legitimacy from writers and critics to a generation of television producers, offering a new model of educational and creative literary broadcasting - 'télévision d’auteur'.

Three siblings gather to celebrate the birthday of their father, on the island of Ré. This is Adele, the elder of the two sisters, who had the idea to organize this surprise. Alice and Antoine adhere immediately. Arnaud, the eldest, is sidelined because of his bad temper. But then they make their way to the family home, an incident occurs. A black cat crossing the road when the father arrived by motorcycle. It is the accident.

The story of one of the most infamous cases in UK criminal history, that of serial killer Dennis Nilsen. Told through the prism of three men, the series explores the personal and professional consequences of coming into contact with a man like Nilsen.

The story revolves around Iris who replies "They aren’t" to her osteopath when he asks her how things are going with her husband. This confession slips out, taking Iris by surprise, and rocking her like a brutal awakening: how long has it been since she made love? But everything is fine: Iris has a seemingly flawless husband, two wonderful daughters, a dental practice with a relentless stream of customers, a nice apartment in an area she loves, friends who understand her... And she’ll soon be 50. And then a stranger plants a seed in her head: "Take a lover". Iris open Pandora’s box and candidates emerge as if from nowhere – as if it were raining men.

Sweet Anna is sent as a maid to the Vizys immediately after the fall of the revolution in 1919. Since the death of her daughter, Mrs. Vizyné has devoted all her emotions and energy to the "education" of the servants. Anna is sometimes pampered, sometimes humiliated. Her nephew Jancsika seduces the young girl, who wastes all her repressed love on him. Jancsika leaves him, and when Anna wants to leave the Vizys, Vizyné, in a fit of hysteria, blackmails her and holds her back. The morning after a house party, Anna murders her hosts.

This film was made up with formerly sensored scenes from earlier films from 1961 to 1974, plus unedited hard rushes from Benazeraf's just-about-to-be-released new film of the time, La Planque (1975).
